I talk about camera bags quite a bit here, but I've never actually written about my camera bag. There are plenty of bags that I like, but out of all of them, the Billingham Hadley Pro is the one bag that I always find myself coming back to. It's just the right size, incredibly well made, and simply undeniably beautiful.
Billingham has been handcrafting camera bags for over 40 years, and their extensive experience and expertise in the field shows clearly with their products. The Hadley Pro is one of the smaller bags in the lineup, but it's still large enough to fit a small DSLR kit or a well equipped mirrorless setup. Behind the camera insert, you can fit an iPad Air, or even a 13" MacBook Air or MacBook Pro Retina. It has two large expandable pockets in front with plenty of room for cables and memory cards, and it's all held together with Billingham's classic leather and brass buckles. Their quick-release system is brilliantly simple to use, and is completely silent. No zipper sounds or velcro rips here.
The material they are made of is called FiberNyte, and while it looks and feels like canvas, it's incredibly durable, is less prone to fading, and is completely waterproof. These bags will survive even the most torrential of storms. Last but not least is my favorite feature of this bag--the handle on top. I use handles on camera bags more than you could imagine, and having a bag without one always feels awkward to me. This is one of only two bags in the Hadley lineup that has a handle, thus making it my absolute favorite.
This is a bag that will last you a lifetime. I've seen Billingham bags that have been beat up for nearly 20 years that still function as well as they did the day they were new. They will show scars, dirt, and the leather will age, but Billingham bags will carry on as long as you need them to.
