I've written about Grado headphones before, and in fact, it was another pair of headphones from the very same line: the Prestige Series. So you may be wondering why I felt it was necessary to write about them again, but it's pretty simple: because these things are stunning.
The SR60e is the least expensive model in Grado's Prestige lineup at just $99, but don't let that shockingly reasonable price fool you--these things are the real deal. Like all Grado headphones, they are handmade in Brooklyn, NY by experts that understand the complicated acoustics in headphone manufacturing better than just about anyone. Their high-end headphones are very highly regarded in the audiophile world, but thankfully Grado has made much of that same audio quality available at this significantly lower price.
Full disclosure, I own a pair of these. But I purchased them myself, and absolutely love them. The sound is full, the soundstage is wide, and nothing feels artificially pushed or pulled. If you want extra bass, these are not the cans for you, but if you're looking for an airy and comfortable accuracy in your listening, then look no further. These things will blow you away.
One thing to note, these are an open-back design, so don't expect them to isolate your ears from any outside noises. They won't. But I think it's important to be clear that these are a music lover's headphone, and you will enjoy them most when you find yourself sitting down to enjoy a great recording--something that simply isn't done much anymore. These headphones will make you want to relax and just listen, and when you do, you'll never want to take them off.
